Spier Wine Farm, Good Nature Organic Shiraz/Cabernet 2022

Spier, one of Stellenbosch’s oldest wine farms dating back to 1692, has always blended tradition with innovation, and their Good Nature Organic range reflects this ethos with a focus on sustainability and biodiversity. These wines are made from organically certified vineyards where the emphasis is on soil vitality, natural vineyard balance, and minimal intervention in the cellar. The Shiraz/Cabernet blend is crafted to be approachable yet characterful, showing the best of Stellenbosch’s warm climate fruit through a bright, clean organic lens.

The grapes are sourced from organically farmed vineyards on decomposed granite and shale soils, benefiting from warm days and cooling False Bay breezes that ensure slow ripening and freshness. Fermentation is done in stainless steel to preserve fruit purity, with a small portion matured in seasoned oak for subtle structure and spice. The result is a smooth, fruit-forward red with depth and vibrancy.

Appearance: Deep ruby with purple highlights, bright and youthful in the glass.

Aroma: Ripe blackberry, plum, and black cherry dominate, supported by gentle notes of pepper, spice, and a touch of cedar. Subtle earthy hints round out the bouquet.

Taste: Medium-bodied with a core of juicy dark fruit – blackberry, mulberry, and cassis – framed by supple tannins. Hints of liquorice, black pepper, and soft oak spice add complexity, while fresh acidity keeps the palate lively.

Finish: Smooth and lingering, with ripe dark fruit and a gentle spice lift at the end.
