Holm Oak Pinot Noir 2024
Holm Oak is a boutique Australian winery in the cool-climate region of Yarra Valley, known for producing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that capture purity, elegance, and expression of the site. The winery focuses on low-yielding vineyards, hand harvesting, and minimal intervention in the winery to allow the fruit and terroir to speak. The 2024 Pinot Noir reflects a warm vintage balanced by cool nights, delivering freshness and vibrancy alongside ripe fruit character.
The grapes are sourced from gently sloping vineyards on free-draining soils with high clay and loam content, promoting balanced vine growth and concentrated flavours. Fermentation is carried out in small open-top fermenters with native yeasts, followed by maturation in French oak barrels, 20% new, for 10 months to add texture and subtle complexity while maintaining purity.
Appearance Bright ruby with translucent garnet edges, indicating a medium-bodied structure. The wine has clarity and depth, with fluid, slow-moving legs suggesting elegance and moderate alcohol.
Aroma The nose is fragrant with red cherry, raspberry, and cranberry notes, complemented by delicate hints of rose petal, red currant, and a touch of forest floor. Light oak influence adds subtle vanilla and baking spice without dominating the fruit.
Taste Silky and precise, the palate delivers vibrant red fruits with hints of cranberry, raspberry, and cherry, intertwined with soft earthy undertones. Fine-grained tannins support the structure, giving the wine balance and a sense of poise. Mid-palate complexity reveals light spice and subtle mineral notes.
Finish Smooth and lingering, with persistent red fruit flavours, gentle spice, and a touch of floral delicacy. The finish is refined and elegant, leaving a clean, refreshing impression.
Food Pairing Herb-crusted lamb loin enhances the wine’s subtle earthiness and red fruit character, while a wild mushroom risotto complements its silky texture and fine tannins.
