Frankland Estate, based in the cool-climate Frankland River region of Western Australia, is known for producing elegant, structured wines that reflect their unique terroir. The Frankland Estate 'Olmo's Reward' Museum Release 2014 is a special blend that honours Dr. Harold Olmo, a pioneering viticulturist who identified Frankland River's potential for fine wine production. This Bordeaux-style blend is composed of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and smaller amounts of Malbec and Petit Verdot, creating a complex and well-balanced wine with great depth. The 2014 vintage, now a museum release, has evolved beautifully, showcasing refined tannins and layered flavours after years of careful aging.

Appearance: Deep ruby red with garnet hues, showing maturity and richness.

Aroma: The nose is complex and enticing, with aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry, and plum, complemented by earthy notes of tobacco, cedar, and a hint of graphite. Subtle touches of dried herbs, spice, and a touch of vanilla from oak aging add further complexity.

Taste: On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, offering layers of dark fruit such as blackberry, cassis, and plum. These are balanced by savoury notes of tobacco, leather, and cedar, along with a touch of cocoa and spice. The tannins are fine and well-integrated, providing structure and elegance, while the wine’s fresh acidity gives it a lively edge.

Finish: The finish is long and persistent, with lingering notes of dark fruit, earth, and spice, showcasing the wine’s complexity and aging potential.

Food pairing: This Bordeaux-style blend pairs beautifully with roasted meats, such as lamb or beef, where the wine’s structure and dark fruit complement the richness of the dish. It also works well with game dishes or mushroom risotto, as its earthy undertones enhance the savoury elements. Aged hard cheeses, like cheddar or Gruyère, would also make an excellent pairing, highlighting the wine’s depth and complexity.
