Bartoli Giusti, a historic estate in the renowned Brunello di Montalcino region of Tuscany, is known for producing traditional yet elegant expressions of Sangiovese. The estate dates back to the 1700s, and its long-standing heritage is reflected in their meticulous winemaking practices. The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is crafted exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso, the local clone of Sangiovese, and showcases the power and complexity that this grape can achieve in the prestigious Montalcino appellation. The 2017 vintage was marked by a hot, dry growing season, which resulted in wines with rich concentration, balanced by the estate’s attention to detail in the vineyard and cellar.

The vineyards sit at higher altitudes, where the combination of clay and limestone soils, coupled with the cooling breezes from the surrounding hills, allows the Sangiovese to ripen slowly, developing both intense flavours and natural acidity. Brunello di Montalcino must be aged for a minimum of five years, with at least two years in oak, and Bartoli Giusti adheres strictly to these aging requirements, ensuring that the wine develops its full complexity before release.

Appearance: Deep garnet red with slight brick hues, indicating its aging, clear and luminous in the glass.

Aroma: The nose is rich and complex, with aromas of ripe red cherries, plums, and dried figs, interwoven with notes of leather, tobacco, and hints of spices like cinnamon and cloves. There are also subtle earthy undertones, with hints of forest floor and dried herbs.

Taste: Full-bodied and structured, with a balance of ripe red fruits such as cherry and raspberry layered with savoury notes of leather, balsamic, and a touch of black tea. The tannins are firm yet smooth, giving the wine a robust structure without being harsh, while the fresh acidity keeps it lively and balanced.

Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering flavours of dark fruit, spice, and a hint of smoky minerality, leaving a refined and satisfying aftertaste.

Food Pairing: This Brunello pairs beautifully with classic Tuscan dishes like Bistecca alla Fiorentina, where the wine’s tannins and acidity cut through the richness of the steak while complementing the charred, savoury flavours. It also works wonderfully with aged pecorino cheese, where the wine’s earthy complexity and depth enhance the cheese’s salty, nutty profile.
