Dalrymple is a boutique winery in Tasmania, renowned for producing refined cool-climate wines that beautifully express the region’s terroir. The Coal River Valley Chardonnay 2022 is a standout in their collection, sourced from vineyards located in the Coal River Valley—a region known for its cool maritime climate and slow ripening conditions. These factors contribute to a Chardonnay of elegance, balance, and complexity, with the 2022 vintage offering vibrant fruit, crisp acidity, and subtle oak influence.

Appearance: Pale straw with a light green hue, indicating freshness and youth.

Aroma: An inviting nose with aromas of lemon zest, green apple, and white peach. These are balanced by more subtle notes of wet stone, flint, and a hint of white flowers. There’s also a delicate influence of oak, contributing subtle hints of vanilla, toasted almonds, and a touch of spice, adding depth to the aromatic profile.

Taste: Medium-bodied and fresh, the palate opens with flavours of citrus like lemon, lime, and grapefruit alongside crisp green apple and pear. The wine shows a beautifully balanced acidity that gives it a lively and refreshing edge. There’s a fine mineral character, reflective of the Coal River Valley’s terroir, with a soft creaminess from partial malolactic fermentation and gentle oak aging. The oak influence is restrained, adding complexity without overshadowing the vibrant fruit.

Finish: Long and crisp, with lingering notes of citrus and a clean, stony minerality. The wine finishes with a refreshing acidity, leaving the palate energized and ensuring excellent aging potential.

Food Pairing: This fresh and elegant Chardonnay pairs beautifully with grilled seafood, such as scallops or seabass, where the wine’s acidity and minerality complement the delicate flavours of the dish. It would also work well with lemon-roasted chicken or creamy pasta with mushrooms, where the wine’s bright citrus notes and subtle creaminess balance the richness of the dish.
