Valli Gibbston Vineyard Pinot Noir 2020 is a standout expression of Central Otago Pinot Noir, crafted by Valli, one of New Zealand’s premier Pinot Noir producers. Winemaker Grant Taylor has long been recognised for his ability to highlight the distinct characteristics of each subregion within Central Otago. Gibbston is the coolest and highest subregion, known for producing highly aromatic and elegant Pinot Noirs with lifted acidity and refined structure. The 2020 vintage had excellent growing conditions, yielding a wine of balance, intensity, and vibrancy.

Appearance: Bright garnet red with a slight translucency, typical of a cool-climate Pinot Noir.

Aroma: The nose is highly aromatic and perfumed, offering a delicate mix of red cherry, wild strawberry, and raspberry, intertwined with floral notes of violets and rose petals. There are subtle earthy undertones, alongside hints of fresh herbs, crushed leaves, and a touch of spice from well-integrated oak.

Taste: Medium-bodied with fine, silky tannins, the palate showcases vibrant flavours of red berries like cherry and cranberry, supported by fresh acidity. The wine has a savoury complexity, with hints of dried herbs, forest floor, and earthy minerality adding depth. The oak influence is restrained, contributing subtle spice notes of clove and cinnamon without overshadowing the pure fruit character.

Finish: Long, elegant, and refreshing, with lingering red fruit, floral notes, and a savoury, earthy finish that speaks to the cool-climate origins of Gibbston.

Food Pairings: This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with herb-crusted lamb or roasted pork, where its acidity and delicate fruit complement the richness of the meat. It also works well with grilled mushrooms or truffle-based dishes, highlighting the wine’s earthy and savoury notes.
