Brockenchack Wines, located in South Australia's Eden Valley, is known for producing high-quality, cool-climate Rieslings. The Mackenzie William 1896 Riesling is named after the winery’s founder Trevor Harch’s grandson, and it celebrates the legacy of their 1896-planted vineyards. Eden Valley is renowned for its Rieslings, offering a perfect environment for growing grapes with bright acidity and intense varietal character, thanks to the region’s cool climate and ancient soils. The 2023 vintage, with its relatively cool growing season, has produced a crisp and vibrant Riesling that captures the purity and precision the region is known for.

The vineyard’s high altitude and rocky soils contribute to the wine’s minerality and freshness, while Brockenchack’s hands-off approach in the winery ensures the natural expression of the fruit and terroir is preserved.

Appearance: Pale lemon with a slight green hue, signalling its youthful freshness.

Aroma: Bright aromas of lime zest, green apple, and white peach dominate, with subtle floral notes of jasmine and hints of wet stone and chalk. There’s also a delicate touch of honeydew melon that adds complexity.

Taste: On the palate, this Riesling is taut and refreshing, with an electric acidity that drives flavours of lemon, lime, and crunchy green apple. There’s a lovely minerality that adds texture and depth, along with a subtle hint of grapefruit pith, giving the wine a clean, crisp edge. The balance between fruit intensity and acidity is striking, making it incredibly vibrant and mouthwatering.

Finish: Long and zesty, with lingering lime and mineral notes. The finish is precise, with a refreshing tang that invites another sip.

Pairings: Baked scallops with smoked cerdito, chive, parsley, and fennel. The wine’s citrus acidity will cut through the richness of the scallops, while its mineral undertones will complement the smoky and fennel notes.

Heirloom tomato with aged balsamic, stracciatella, and mojo verde. The bright, fresh flavours of the Riesling will enhance the natural sweetness and acidity of the tomatoes, while the wine’s minerality will balance the creaminess of the stracciatella.
