The Tenuta Guado al Tasso 2015 in a 3L format is a distinguished Super Tuscan from Bolgheri, Tuscany, crafted by the esteemed Marchesi Antinori family. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc epitomises the balance of power and elegance that Bolgheri is known for. The 2015 vintage benefited from a warm, dry season, producing a wine with rich concentration, bold tannins, and excellent structure. The large 3L format allows for slower maturation, offering enhanced ageing potential and complexity over time.

Aged for 18 months in French oak, followed by additional time in the bottle, this wine is built to develop depth and refinement, with the large format ensuring a slow, graceful evolution.

Appearance: Deep ruby red with garnet reflections, showing the wine’s concentration and ability to age over many years.

Aroma: The nose is rich and complex, with notes of blackcurrant, blackberries, and ripe cherries. Layers of tobacco, leather, and cedar are complemented by subtle hints of Mediterranean herbs, graphite, and sweet spices like vanilla and clove, adding depth and intrigue.

Taste: Full-bodied with a lush, velvety mouthfeel. Ripe black fruits such as cassis, dark cherry, and plum are balanced by savoury notes of tobacco, black pepper, and earthy undertones. The oak adds well-integrated touches of vanilla, dark chocolate, and spice. The wine’s vibrant acidity brings balance, ensuring it remains fresh despite its power.

Finish: Exceptionally long, with persistent notes of dark fruit, spice, and a touch of savoury tobacco. The firm tannins and bright acidity suggest this wine will continue to age beautifully in the magnum format.

Food Pairing: This Guado al Tasso pairs excellently with rich, flavourful dishes. Grilled or roasted meats such as ribeye steak, lamb, or venison are ideal matches, with the wine’s tannins and dark fruit enhancing the savoury, charred elements of the meat. It also pairs beautifully with hearty pasta dishes like pappardelle with wild boar ragù, where the wine’s acidity cuts through the richness. For a simple yet satisfying pairing, try it with aged cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano or Pecorino Toscano, where the wine’s earthy complexity is perfectly complemented by the cheese’s nutty, savoury qualities.
