Château Montelena continues to be one of Napa Valley's most revered estates, having earned worldwide acclaim since the 1976 Judgement of Paris. Known for producing wines of exceptional quality and longevity, their Cabernet Sauvignon holds a special place in the Napa Valley wine scene. Founded in 1882 in Calistoga, Château Montelena’s commitment to traditional winemaking, alongside the unique terroir of their volcanic soils, has made their wines famous for a fine balance between power, structure, and elegance.

The 2020 vintage was challenging for many Napa producers due to wildfires, but Château Montelena’s skilled vineyard management and early harvest helped them produce another stunning Cabernet. This vintage is marked by concentration and depth, reflective of the shorter growing season. Volcanic soils and cooler microclimates impart signature minerality and balance, resulting in a wine that expresses the classic traits of Napa Cabernets.

Appearance: Deep, intense ruby with a vibrant purple hue, showing its youthful vigour and concentration.

Aroma: Aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and ripe black cherry, with layers of graphite, cedar, and fresh tobacco leaf. Hints of dark chocolate and a touch of vanilla emerge from the oak ageing, adding complexity.

Taste: Full-bodied, with rich flavours of dark berries—blackcurrant, plum, and black cherry—alongside notes of mocha, black pepper, and subtle herbaceous elements. The volcanic soils impart a fine minerality, while the tannins are firm but velvety, making the wine accessible in its youth but capable of aging. A bright acidity runs through the wine, balancing the ripe fruit and adding freshness.

Finish: Long and structured, with lingering notes of blackberry, graphite, and a touch of sweet spice. The tannins give a refined texture on the palate, promising further complexity with age.
