Campo alle Comete, located in the Bolgheri region of Tuscany, is known for its modern approach to winemaking while still respecting the region’s traditions. Bolgheri, famous for producing some of Italy’s finest Super Tuscans, has also become known for its outstanding Syrah. Podere 277 Syrah 2019 is a single-vineyard wine that showcases the richness and complexity of Syrah grown in the Mediterranean climate. The 2019 vintage is a reflection of a warm yet balanced growing season, producing a wine that is both bold and elegant, with ripe fruit and refined tannins.

The Bolgheri terroir, with its combination of coastal influence and alluvial soils, allows Syrah to express itself with both power and finesse. The winemaking focuses on enhancing the natural fruit while adding layers of complexity through careful oak aging.

Appearance: Deep ruby with purple highlights, signalling both concentration and youth.

Aroma: Bold aromas of ripe blackberries, black plum, and dark cherries are complemented by notes of black pepper, liquorice, and a hint of smoky oak. There’s a touch of Mediterranean herbs—rosemary and thyme—that add complexity and a sense of place, along with a subtle earthy note.

Taste: Full-bodied and lush, with rich flavours of black fruit—blackberry, cassis, and dark plum—balanced by savoury notes of black olive, dried herbs, and pepper. The wine has a velvety texture, with smooth, ripe tannins that give structure without overpowering the fruit. A touch of spice and mocha from the oak aging adds depth, while the wine's fresh acidity provides balance and lift.

Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering notes of black fruit, pepper, and a hint of cocoa. The finish is refined, with well-integrated tannins and a touch of mineral freshness.

Pairings: Spiced lamb ribs with burnt maple, parsley, hazelnut crumb, and Persian feta. The richness of the lamb and the savoury spice will complement the wine’s peppery notes, while the Syrah’s acidity will balance the fattiness of the ribs.

Slow-cooked porchetta wrapped in jamon with cavolo nero and red wine jus. The wine’s bold fruit and earthy undertones will pair beautifully with the porchetta’s savoury, herb-infused flavours, and its structure will handle the richness of the dish.

Campo alle Comete Podere 277 Syrah 2019 is a bold and elegant expression of Syrah from Bolgheri, showcasing the grape’s potential in this prestigious region. It’s a perfect match for rich, savoury dishes and has the balance and depth to develop further with age.
